For many centuries, the ancient Hawaiaan people practiced a healing massage called Lomi Lomi. Traditional Lomi Lomi, an integral part of Huna (Hawaiian Spirituality) would span several days and often involved three Kahunas (Shamans) facilitating Rites of Passages and Healing. This journey included bodywork, cleansing, prayer and spiritual purification to bring about healing and transformation. 

To better understand Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, it helps to have a basic understanding of some key concepts in Huna. In the Huna Tradition, there are Three Selves that make up each of us; the Lower Self (Unihipili), the Middle Self (Uhane), and the Higher Self (Aumakua). Ideally, these three selves work together in harmony to nuture Mana (vital life force). Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage encourages harmony between the Three Selves as well as helping to activate and increase Mana in the body. A healthy flow of Mana is vital for wellbeing and allows our Higher Selves to manifest our visions and dreams.

At AwenTree, our trained Practitioner, Melissa Stratton, LMT, works intuitively with her clients; utilizing long and continuous strokes; simultaneously massaging your shoulders, back, arms, legs, feet. Personal belief systems can block energy flow in our bodies just as much as muscle tension can. Hawaiian Lomi Lomi helps release these blockages giving your energy new direction. By combining movement, breathe and prayer; this sacred and effective technique allows you to gently connect with your inner soul, clearing emotional blocks, releasing and allowing changes in your body, mind and spirit; bringing balance and harmony. 

The mindful, sacred space created during Hawaiian Lomi Lomi often allows the receiver to open to their own Shamanic Journey for insight, wisdom, and vision.
